Dramatic Entry of Japan in fairy in December 1941 by the famous Pearl Harbor attack shifted the theatre of war to the east ,and to the outbreak of hostilities in east Asia shortly thereafter .The Japanese invaded Burma on 11 December 1941 ,and the British evacuated Rangoon on 7 March .The First Japanese air raid on Port Blair took place on 16th February 1942 .The British moved back to Calcutta evacuating the island by 13th March 1942. The Japanese began reasonably enough and their welcome ,if apprehensive was not hostile ,with the people willing to extend cooperation and participate in Peace Committees and collaborate . it the functioned independently until the Military Administration ,the Gunseisho, was set up in1942.in December 1942 to make way of Civil Administration which was set up in febaurarry 1943 with the same administration organization and the professed agenda of the promotion of public welfare ,but a severe shortage of the officer its staff having been dispatched to a watery grave by a British torpedo on its way to the Island .but Japanese no one any doubt to conquering army as the first act was terrorize the populace ,they publicly beheaded Major Bird and on the charge of attempting wireless contact with the enemy with such barbarity ,beating and kicking him and breaking his ankles and shoulder with their bare hands before cutting off his head with a sword, that it mellowed for ever afterward the townsmen attitude of British administration . the first commando mission and set up radio contact with the island .shortly afterward air raid over Port Blair ,Bombing vital installation with such delay accuracy that it could not but point to espionage unable to gather any intelligence on those activity. When British submarine appeared off Ross Island attacked installation in Port Blair they are rounded up to sixty odd person for interrogation of threw them in the cellular jail In October 1943 . In October 1943, the provisional Indian Governed was installed in Singapore by the Japanese under the leadership of Subhas Chandra Bose ,and the announcement made the Andaman nad Nicobar Islands would be handed over to it shortly afterward on 29th December 1943 Subhas Chandra Bose came to Port Blair , to discuss the setting up of the provisional Government with the Miniseibu .it was decided that there could not be a complete handing over for the duration of the war ,but the department of the civil administration ,except a few such as Defense and Communication ,could be transfer ,Bose ,Who was received by Admiral Islhikava with all Due ceremony and then taken away to Ross Island for the duration of his two day did not get an opportunity to meet the local people ,and visited the cellular Jail where the executive and the member of the Indian Independent league were being held for torture and also made public address he was not allowed to divine the true state of affair in the town .A month after he left and about a week after the provisional Government arrived on 30 January 1944.
The Japanese occupation of the island during the second world war result in even more brutal treatment of the island, but then it was also in this period that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose First Hoisted the Indian Flag on 30th December 1943 on the Island and declare them Liberated.
